Below the course of the contest is described, as well as the rules for participation.
You can register on the day of Fantasy Court at the Fantasy Court information stand to participate in the Costume contest. There are only limited spots. We ask for your age and your name here. Our volunteers will then ask a number of questions to determine whether you meet the rules to be allowed to participate. After this you can choose a time slot, again first come, first served. During this time slot you can show your costume to the jury. Be present 10 minutes before the start. Registration closes at 13.30 or when there are no spots left, whichever of the two is earlier. There are no registration costs for participating in the costume contest.
We expect that you meet the rules described below. In addition, we expect that you are present on time. We will not search or announce, so if you are not there, you will be deregistered and can no longer participate. Our volunteers will guide you to and from the jury. After the judging there is a photo moment with a photographer. These photos will come online later, as well as the group photo of all participants. The costume contest will start at 14.00.
Judging takes 2.5 minutes. Think carefully beforehand about what you want to say and what you are most proud of with what you have made. Especially show these things too!
Important to keep in mind: The individual parts of your costume are just as important as the whole. We judge on how it visually fits together. We like it if you explain why you went for specific clothing pieces or if you have a fun story about your costume. For example, are you portraying a self-made character, tell why they wear these clothes.
Clearly mention if you made something yourself and also if you did not. Suspicion of falsely providing this information leads to disqualification.
After the jury has judged all costumes, they will add up the scores and deliberate about the final winners. Note! There are more prizes than just the top 3. Some of these categories are secret so that people cannot deliberately play into them. So especially come as you are.
Costumes may not be obscene or offensive, incite hatred or provoke. There is also a swimsuit policy: everything that a swimsuit covers must also be covered on stage. The costumes in the costume contest may not be bought. The costume contest is not open to characters from published works, including films, TV shows, comic books, cartoons, video games and card games, i.e. it is not a cosplay contest. However, original interpretations of existing figures are allowed, for example Steampunk Batman, Indiana Jones if he had lived in 1350, Brave’s Merida reimagined as a fairy, etc. are examples of costumes that would be allowed.
The final choice lies with the volunteer at the information stand and their choice is final. Volunteers and organization of Fantasy Court are excluded from participating in the costume contest to win prizes.
The prizes for the costume contest are sponsored by the vendors of Fantasy Court. No rights can be derived from the prizes announced on our socials. We rely on the information provided to us by the vendors and accept no responsibility for any inaccuracies or changes. The prizes are divided over first, second and third places, and judge’s favourites in the costume and sword fighting contest. There is no cash prize available and prizes may not be exchanged for money.
